AMERICAN SENTINEL UNIVERSITY
ACCEPTING ENROLLMENT IN ONLINE
RN TO BS IN NURSING
Take Your Nursing Career To The Next Level
Aurora, CO (PRWEB) May 8, 2008 - With health care as one of the fastest growing industries in the world, the demand for nurses with advanced experience and education continues to rise. To help Registered Nurses (RNs) remain competitive in their field, American Sentinel University is accepting students for enrollment in its online RN to Bachelor of Science in Nursing program.
For many nurses looking to advance their careers, a bachelor of science in nursing is the natural next step. The RN to BS in Nursing degree completion (RN-BSN) program at American Sentinel is intended for registered nurses who desire career mobility and professional development. Registered nurses with credentials from a hospital school of nursing or with an associate degree from a community college are eligible to enroll in this program.
"Everyone in health care, especially nurses, is finding their job redefined by technology, from health delivery systems to patient records and reimbursement procedures," said Dr. Richard W. Oliver, CEO and Provost of American Sentinel. "We estimate that health care providers, payers and patients will spend some $10 billion this year on health information systems alone.
"American Sentinel's nursing programs are an integral part of our effort to provide up-to-date, quality online learning at the intersection of health care, technology and business," continued Oliver. "Both of our online nursing programs, the RN to BSN and MS in Nursing, offer the flexibility and affordability required by today's demanding health care schedules and constraints."
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, nurses in management positions can advance from assistant unit manger or head nurse to more senior-level administrative roles. Increasingly, management-level nursing positions require a graduate or an advanced degree in nursing or health services administration.
In addition to opportunities for career advancement, nursing is a field that is currently in high demand. The Council on Physician and Nurse Supply recently released a statement calling for a 30 percent increase in the annual number of nursing graduates needed to meet the nation's health care needs. As a whole, the country is in the midst of a nursing shortage that is only expected to intensify as baby boomers age and the need for health care grows, according to the American Association of Colleges of Nursing.
The shortage problem is compounded by the fact that many nursing colleges and universities are struggling to expand enrollment levels to meet the rising demand for nursing care, leaving some qualified students out of the advanced classes needed to finish their degrees. With courses available entirely online and a streamlined admissions process, American Sentinel University is able to quickly get students on the path to finish their BSN degree.
Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, American Sentinel University offers more than 24 online degree programs (with no residency requirements) and over 231 courses. The university has over 40 full-time and adjunct faculty, of which more than half hold a Ph.D.
Founded as a Vanderbilt University Technology Company, American Sentinel University delivers to its students the competitive advantages of unique online education programs focused on the needs of high-growth sectors. The university is accredited by the U.S. Secretary of Education-recognized Accrediting Commission of the Distance Education and Training Council.
