AMERICAN SENTINEL UNIVERSITY
RECOGNIZES STUDENT ACHIEVEMENTS WITH AWARDS

Aurora, CO (PRWEB) May 30, 2008 - American Sentinel University has announced the 2008 recipients of the Mary A. Adams President's Award and the Richard W. Oliver Merit awards. Students are recognized with these awards for their outstanding academic achievement in coursework toward earning their respective degrees.

Deborah Denston, an American Sentinel student pursuing a bachelor of science degree in computer science, is the recipient of the Mary A. Adams President's Award. This award honors a continuing student who best exemplifies perseverance in the progress toward their degree despite numerous obstacles.

"Deborah has been juggling her studies with American Sentinel in addition to taking classes to become a foster parent to troubled children," said Mary Adams, president of American Sentinel University. "She was nominated for this award because she is friendly and outgoing, and in spite of the many demands on her time outside of school she takes time to encourage other students and build a great community at American Sentinel."

Six American Sentinel students received the Richard W. Oliver Merit Award. These students included: Bruce Erickson, MBA in healthcare; Jim Roscovius, master of science in information systems; Joana Adams, master of science in nursing; Jennifer King, bachelor's in business administration; Andrew Freund, bachelor's in computer science; and Nancy Pruitt, bachelor's in nursing.

The Richard W. Oliver Merit awards are given to honor mid-program students, who, during the first half of their degree program, have exhibited originality of thought and thoroughness of study. They are awarded to one student in each of the master's and bachelor's programs in business, healthcare and technology. Recipients receive an award equal to a full course in their chosen area. The faculty in each discipline selects students for the awards.

"Some of my most memorable experiences are interacting with fellow students and faculty in the forums and receiving this award," said Roscovius, a recipient of the Richard W. Oliver Merit Award. "Both the faculty and staff are excellent. I received more one-on-one attention at American Sentinel University than I received at my brick-and-mortar school I attended years ago."

Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, American Sentinel University offers 24 online degree programs (with no residency requirements) and more than 230 courses. The university has over 40 full-time and adjunct faculty, of which more than half hold a Ph.D.

Founded as a Vanderbilt University Technology Company, American Sentinel University delivers to its students the competitive advantages of unique online education programs focused on the needs of high-growth sectors. The university is accredited by the U.S. Secretary of Education-recognized Accrediting Commission of the Distance Education and Training Council.
