Transfer Credits

Credit transfer ensures that students receive recognition for successfully completed undergraduate and graduate level courses, professional certifications, and professional degrees when enrolling in American Sentinel University degree programs. The Admissions Committee will evaluate the transfer value of educational work completed elsewhere. There is no charge for transferring credits from other institutions.

Requesting Transfer Credits

Requests for credit transfer along with supporting documentation must accompany the application. Students applying for transfer credit should provide the following:

  • An official transcript from the institution where the credit was earned. While we wait for the official transcripts, feel free to send us your unofficial transcript (photocopies) so that we can proceed with your application.
  • A copy of a course description of any course for which transfer credit is requested, and
  • Once your evaluation is completed, you will receive a Degree Plan.

Numbers of Transfer Credits Varies per Program

American Sentinel University also awards transfer credit for specific professional certifications. Credits awarded range from 3 to 12 credit hours depending on the certification and the degree program and may be applied to general education core and major courses.

The number and source of transfer credits that will be accepted varies per degree program:

Students may receive a total of up to 45 hours credit through a combination of credits transferred from other universities, for specific professional certifications, and credit awarded for life and work experience.

In addition, for associate degree students applying for transfer credits, American Sentinel University will consider credit earned through the ACT Proficiency Examination Program (PEP), the College Board's Advanced Placement (AP) program, the College-Level Examination Program (CLEP), the Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support (DANTES), Subject Standardized Testing (DSST), and other widely accepted industry certification or institution-developed tests.

Transferability of American Sentinel University Credit

American Sentinel University has no control over whether or not another university will accept its credits as transfer credits. There are many instances in which American Sentinel University credits have been accepted as transfer credits, but, ultimately, decisions about transfer of credit are made by individual colleges and universities. There are many reasons for this. Sometimes there is not an adequate fit in curriculum or standards between two schools and credits will not transfer. You should always contact the Registrar at the university in question to determine whether credits from American Sentinel will transfer to that institution. For additional information related to the transferability of credits, go to http://www.chea.org and read the handbook on the Fundamentals of Accreditation, and http://www.detc.org (American Sentinel's accrediting body) and read "Student Guide to Transfer of Credit."
