Associate of Science in Criminal Justice

Program Overview

The online Associate of Science in Criminal Justice is designed to help students to develop the skills, knowledge and abilities for an entry level position or to upgrade their present status in branches of law enforcement, federal, state, local, and private agencies. The AS is Criminal Justice degree will provide students with a competitive advantage for acceptance to further training provided by criminal justice agencies.

Completion of general education and specific courses in criminology, criminal procedure and criminal evidence, criminal investigations, juvenile justice, international criminology, police and police procedures, and the corrections process offers students the foundation to enter the criminal justice field or further their studies toward a bachelor's degree in criminal justice.

The AS in Criminal Justice program courses are for enrollment twice a month.

Program Objectives

Upon completion of the Associate of Science in Criminal Justice program, students will:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of fundamental concepts and data regarding society and the criminal justice system.
  • Explain the roles and functions of the criminal-justice system and its subordinate agencies in a democratic society.
  • Research current criminal justice topics and issues synthesize concepts and apply them to operational activities.
  • Have the knowledge and skills to obtain entry-level employment in the criminal justice field.
  • Define the principles of good citizenship and apply these principles to the solution of current social problems.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of and a commitment to the moral ethical and legal obligations of criminal justice professionals.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to the community-services functions of police agencies.
