Program Overview
The online Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice is designed for students seeking to move into a professional career in the criminal justice field or for those already in the profession wishing to upgrade their skills or to seek new professional competencies.
Students graduating from the BS in Criminal Justice program will be prepared to consider a wide range of potential career options such as pre-law, law enforcement, administration, investigation, social services, and human resources.
Students can enhance their career opportunities by choosing the General Criminal Justice program, or to specialize in one of three concentration areas, Law Enforcement, Administration or Cyber-Criminology.
- The General Criminal Justice program is designed for students seeking a career in a variety of criminal justice fields such as law enforcement, security, corrections, juvenile and adult supervision services as well as more generalized fields of application.
- The Law Enforcement concentration is focused on preparing the student with coursework specifically designed for those desiring to become Law Enforcement Officers.
- The Criminal Justice Administration concentration prepares the student for advancement into administrative areas and their associated duties.
- Students specializing in Cyber-Criminology will be prepared to enter into information security and related computer crime, the newest and potentially the most exciting and growing of criminal justice fields.
The BS in Criminal Justice program courses are open for enrollment once a month.
Program Objectives
The objectives of the online program are to:
- Provide students with a well-rounded education through the study of mathematics, natural sciences, social science, humanities, and written and oral communication.
- Enable students to develop analytical and critical thinking and interpersonal skills applicable to real-world problems, especially those involving the criminal justice system, criminal behavior and theories, and applied human relations sciences.
- Develop an in-depth knowledge of the criminal justice system, its theoretical foundations and applied methods.
- Learn the strengths and weaknesses of applied criminal justice approaches presently used.
- Prepare students for a career as a professional in the field of Criminal Justice.
- Expose students to a spectrum of expert instructors including experts in theory, law and legality, and those with extensive refined practical experience.
- Prepare students with the opportunities to become acquainted with the particulars of several specialties offered within the major.
