General Education Learning Objectives

American Sentinel's general education curriculum focuses on the competencies needed to enhance the professional and civic lives of students and on the critical skills needed as scaffolding to attain individual program goals.

These goals promote an understanding of the complex interrelationships that exist between societal and technological change and personal growth, and offer a foundation for evaluating discipline-specific perspectives within a larger social framework through study in four key areas:

Written Composition 6 credit hours
Humanities 12 credit hours
Behavioral and Social Sciences 12 credit hours
Science, Mathematics and Information Technology 12 credit hours

The following high-level goals embody a single overarching imperative: to equip students to solve problems and make decisions based on sound quantitative, qualitative, and ethical reasoning. To this end, the general education curriculum empowers students to:

  • Apply mathematical principles to problems and effectively communicate quantitative information.
  • Assess issues of social, economic, and political consequence using the theory, methods, and perspectives of the social sciences in a global society.
  • Integrate principles of natural and social sciences, humanities, and mathematics to solve problems in specific organizations and domains.
  • Analyze, evaluate, and assess arguments and viewpoints related to social, technological, and organizational issues.
  • Incorporate principles of diversity recognition and evaluation into analysis specific to the domains of business, technology, and health care.
  • Use computer technology to research, process, synthesize, and communicate information.
