Academic Policies

Program Progress and Completion Requirements Policy

As noted, all American Sentinel University degree programs require that students meet certain criteria in order to graduate. These requirements are program specific, as follows:

Associate of Science Programs

  • Complete 60 semester credit hours consisting of 42 hours in the general education curriculum and 18 hours in the major. A minimum of 15 semester credit hours must be completed every 12 months. Students enrolling in a single course must complete the course within 8 weeks (3 credit courses) or 12 weeks (4 credit courses).
  • Maintain a minimum overall grade point average (GPA) of at least a C (2.0).
  • Maintain at least a B- (2.67) GPA in the major area of study. Computer Science students are required to pass CS110 and CS111 with a minimum grade of B- (2.67).
Note: Associate's of science degree students who do not maintain the minimum required GPA for the first 12 hours of coursework, or any point thereafter, will be placed on academic probation. Students who remain on academic probation for 6 consecutive semester hours of coursework may be subject to assessment of academic penalty up to and including termination of enrollment.

Bachelor of Science Programs

  • Complete 120 semester credit hours consisting of 60 hours in the general education curriculum and 60 hours in the major. A minimum of 15 semester credit hours must be completed every 12 months. Students enrolling in a single course must complete the course within 8 weeks (3-credit courses) or 12 weeks (4-credit courses).
  • Maintain a minimum overall grade point average (GPA) of at least a C (2.0).
  • Maintain at least a B- (2.67) GPA in the major area of study. Computer Science students are required to pass CS110 and CS111 with a minimum grade of B- (2.67).

Master of Science Programs (except MS Nursing)

  • Complete 36 semester credit hours. A minimum of 12 credit hours must be completed every 12 months. Students enrolling in a single course must complete it within 12 weeks.
  • Maintain a minimum overall grade point average of at least a B- (2.67).
  • Graduate students will not be allowed to pass more than two graduate courses with a grade of C+ (2.33) or below. All other courses must be passed with a grade of B- (2.67) or better.
Note: A grade of less than C+ (2.33) in any course places the student on academic probation and requires that the student repeat the course. If a student does not achieve a B- (2.67) the second time or has an overall GPA of less than a B- (2.67), the student will be required to leave the program. If the student wants to re-enroll in a program, she/he must reapply. Students needing to retake a course as a result of a failing grade, a third C+ (2.33), or a GPA below a B- (2.67) must pay full tuition to re-enroll in a course.

MBA, MBA - Healthcare

  • Complete 36 credit hours, consisting of 12 3-credit courses.
  • Maintain a minimum overall grade point average (GPA) of at least a B (3.00).
Note: A grade of less than C+ (2.33) in any course places the student on academic probation and requires that the student repeat the course. If a student does not achieve a B (3.0) the second time or has an overall GPA of less than a B (3.0), the student will be required to leave the program. If the student wants to re-enroll in a program, she/he must reapply. Students needing to retake a course as a result of a failing grade, a third C+ (2.33), or a GPA below a B (3.0) must pay full tuition to re-enroll in a course.

Master of Science Nursing

  • Complete 36 credit hours, consisting of 12 3-credit courses.
