American Sentinel University Graduate Tim B. Waterhouse, M.D. Named DETC Outstanding Graduate of the Year
Aurora, CO. (May 10, 2010) – Dr. Timothy B. Waterhouse, Board-certified doctor of obstetric and gynecological medicine and a 2009 Master’s of Business Administration graduate of American Sentinel University, has been named a 2010 Outstanding Graduate by the Distance Education & Training Council (DETC). DETC is a nationally recognized accrediting agency that defines, maintains, and promotes educational excellence in distance education institutions.
“We selected Tim for this award based on his exceptional academic career with American Sentinel and the quality contributions he has made to his profession,” said Mary Adams, President of American Sentinel University, an accredited online university that provides healthcare, technology and business degree programs for professionals.
Dr. Waterhouse began his online MBA degree program in the summer of 2006 while operating a thriving medical practice. “American Sentinel University offered such flexibility with classes and scheduling that, despite my busy schedule, I was able to complete course work even at two o’clock in the morning while waiting for deliveries,” he said.
By 2007, Dr. Waterhouse left his medical practice to run a high-risk obstetrical home-care company that he helped found and grow. Yet he continued pursuing his Master’s degree.
“By relating what I learned in my course work to what I was doing in my business, I think it drew me deeper into the course: the theory behind the way in which business and strategy is done,” he added. “My courses helped me understand what underlies and funds my business.”
He believes that earning his online MBA has made him a better businessman. “Many doctors are not good business people and they are often treated as such,” he explained. “The added credential of an MBA allows people within the medical community to immediately recognize that I have some experience in the world of business.”
