–University Adds Experienced Healthcare Executives to Guide its Healthcare Division –
Aurora, CO Jan 7, 2009 – American Sentinel University announced earlier today that it added four new members to its healthcare advisory board.
Dr. Valentina Gokenbach, Dr. Tim Porter-O’Grady, Roy Simpson and Dr. Nancy Marie Valentine will join the university’s Healthcare Advisory Board. These accomplished individuals each bring over 30 years of clinical and business knowledge to this fast-growing, accredited online university.
“We look forward to their contributions as members of American Sentinel’s healthcare advisory board. Their insights and array of experiences will be especially valuable as we continue to build our healthcare undergraduate and graduate degree programs in the years ahead,” said Richard W. The new Board Members include:
- Valentina Gokenbach, DM, MBA, RN – Dr. Gokenbach currently serves as vice president and chief nurse executive for William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan. She has a true passion for leadership and has been in administrative health care positions for over 30 years, beginning with critical care and emergency nursing, then progressing to her current position. Dr. Gokenbach is a graduate of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Executive Nurse Fellowship program.
- Tim Porter-O’Grady, DM, EdD, RN, FAAN – Dr. Porter-O’Grady has been involved in healthcare for 38 years and has held roles from staff nursing to senior executive in a variety of health settings. Dr. Porter-O’Grady is currently senior partner of an international healthcare consulting firm in Atlanta, specializing in health futures, organizational innovation, conflict and change, as well as health services delivery models. He holds graduates degrees in clinical leaderships and two doctorates, one in learning behavior and the other in organizational leadership. He has published more than 165 proctored journal articles and 17 books.
- Nancy Marie Valentine, PhD, MPH, FNAP, RN, FAAN – Dr. Valentine is the Chief Nursing Officer for Main Line Health System. Her career spans more than 35 years and includes successful positions in clinical nursing, nursing and hospital administration, academics and research and in the development of nursing policy and practice on a national level. Dr. Valentine served as the enterprise wide chief nursing officer for the Department of Veterans Affairs in the 1990s and was part of the leadership at the VA hospital that implemented extensive quality initiatives now viewed as a national model for patient safety. While at the VA, Dr. Valentine also served as Special Assistant, Health Affairs to the Secretary of the VA and Advisor to the VA Undersecretary for Health. Following her tenure at the VA, she served as the national senior nursing executive for CIGNA Healthcare in Hartford, Connecticut.
- Roy Simpson, FNAP, RNC, FAAN – Simpson is vice president for nursing at Cerner Corporation, the leading supplier of healthcare information technology. With more than 600 published articles and presentations on nursing informatics and professional issues to his credit, he is an internationally known speaker with 30+ years experience and a contributor to numerous professional publications and editorial boards, including Nursing Forum, Applied Nursing Research and Nursing Administration Quarterly. Simpson was a pioneer in the development and funding of the Nursing Minimum Data Set (NMDS). He is a fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and National Academies of Practice, a member of the Board of Governors for the National League for Nursing (NLN) and NLN Chair of the Council of Nurse Executives.
