Nurses are responsible for managing indwelling urinary catheters, and can effectively employ core strategies recommended by the CDC to help prevent CAUTIs. The goal is to minimize use in all patients, and to avoid use for the convenience of nursing staff (i.e. management of incontinence).

In fall 2011, Sandy began the RN to BSN program. What she gained most, she says, is knowledge she can apply directly to her job as a nurse at a long-term acute care facility. “It’s been a big benefit of going back to school—I’m able to give more to my patients,” Sandy says.

Marianne Miranda graduated from American Sentinel University with her MSN, nursing education specialization in January 2013 with a 4.0 GPA. And without a doubt, the degree was hard earned — and taught Marianne more than she ever expected.

Each year for National Nurses Week (May 6-12), American Sentinel University likes to do something a little bit extra to recognize our dedicated students. This year, we made a much-needed donation to non-profit organization Nurse-Family Partnership (N-FP), a community health program that serves low-income, first-time moms and their babies.
