GRADUATION SCRAPBOOK | MESSAGES
A community for American Sentinel Graduates.
I spent several years debating on going back to school to earn my MBA. I'm glad I finally achieved it, and even more happy I could do it online. Since finishing my last class, I almost feel like something is missing: my ASU family. But the degree has opened up some opportunities at work for me, so I'm even more busy than I was this time last year. I have to say that the teamwork and collaboration with my classmates (cohort) was one of the most valuable aspects when I started the MBA program. Working with others is a key cornerstone at work, and having that as part of the curriculum just made it much easier to master. It seems like I've set the standard for several people at work (including my immediate director) to earn their MBA. And, the confidence I've received while earning the degree is priceless, too. Thanks ASU and Kathie!

Getting an education is the greatest gift you can give yourself. I truly enjoyed my time at American Sentinel University (ASU), and found everyone to be quite helpful. I received my degree in Business Administration in 2006 from ASU. In 2007 I received an Associate in Education from Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC), and this year I received my Master of Art degree in Management on May 17, 2008 from American Public University(APU). I am now in the process of interviewing schools for my PhD.
I wish each of you the best of luck. Remember to look at every challenge as an opportunity to learn something new. If you do this, you will be amazed at the numerous opportunities that awaits you!!! Again, I wish you all much success!!!!

It might be a good idea to have ASU's customized items, like T-shirts, tea and coffee mug, key chains, etc., and have a display or a gift shop on graduation day. Also open an online shopping cart for such items.

I am glad I joined American Sentinel. It has a great distance education program, especially in computer science. The professors are very eager to help and I always get prompt responses from them whenever I have questions. I would highly recommend ASU to anyone who plans to pursue post-secondary education.

The most obvious thing I take away from the program is all of the useful
tools I learned along the way. Applying and transferring all of this
knowledge from principle to practice is a daily challenge, but I am
definitely well equipped to succeed.
However, the most valuable aspect of my student experience – the thing that
I am most satisfied with on a daily basis – is the idea of continuous
self-improvement. It took me awhile to get back into a “student” mode when
I first started – reading and writing and reading and writing, day in and
day out – but once I got into a rhythm, I really couldn’t get out! I’ve
happily parlayed that formula into additional professional qualifications
along the way. At the end of it all, the more I learn, the better I feel.
And if I hadn’t gone back to school, then I wouldn’t feel as good as I do
now!

The most memorable and valuable aspect of my student experience has come
from the interaction with the faculty and staff. Throughout my time at
American Sentinel University the personal attention shown by the faculty and
staff demonstrated a genuine desire to help me as well as other students be
successful. This personal attention and genuineness is most memorable for
three reasons. Firstly, Jan Marshall was the catalyst for me continuing my
education with American Sentinel University. The faculty and staff ensured
my success with instruction and guidance. Lastly, the phone call from Mary
Adams, President of American Sentinel University, regarding my winning the
Dean’s Award for Excellence in the MSIS program gave me the reassurance that
the time and hard work was well spent.

Both the faculty and staff are excellent! Any questions I have had were
answered promptly, either by e-mail or by phone calls. Assignments were
graded promptly, and I was able to debate some of my answers – sometimes I
won, and sometimes not J. I received more one-on-one attention at ASU then I
received at my brick-and-mortar school I attended years ago.
Memorable – Interacting with fellow students and faculty in the forums and
receiving three awards are my most memorable experiences while attending
ASU. The awards I received were:
- Outstanding Graduate of 2004
- DETC Honor Society Award
- Richard W. Oliver Merit Award

I am so proud that I have obtained my bachelors degree at age 43. I had a
lot of encouragement and support from my family, friends, and employer.
When I received my final transcript with a status of "Graduated, Bachelor of
Science in Information Systems, Cum Laude", it brought tears to my eyes. I
already work in Information Systems so I will use all of the knowledge that
I have obtained.
