About the CompTIA Linux+ Certification

CompTIA Linux+ is a vendor-neutral certification that validates the knowledge of individuals with six to twelve months of practical Linux experience. Professionals holding the CompTIA Linux+ credential can explain fundamental management of Linux systems from the command line, demonstrate knowledge of user administration, and understand file permissions, software configurations, management of Linux-based clients, server systems and security. CompTIA Linux+ certification identifies foundational proficiency in the management of Linux-based clients and server systems.

About the CompTIA Linux+ Exam

The CompTIA Linux+ exam covers basic installation, operation, security, troubleshooting and basic Linux hardware services for the Linux operating system on workstations and servers. CompTIA recommends exam candidates have at least 12 months of Linux administration experience and the CompTIA A+ and CompTIA Network+ certifications prior to testing. To become certified, candidates must pass two 60-question, 90-minute exams:

LX0-101 – This exam covers system architecture, Linux installation and package management.

LX0-102 – This exam covers shells, scripting and data management, user interfaces and desktops, administrative tasks, essential system services, networking fundamentals and security.

Exam candidates may choose to have their exam scores forwarded to the Linux Professional Institute and become certified in LPIC-1 as well.

Registration

To register for the CompTIA Linux+ exam, simply complete an American Sentinel application. Students who choose to pursue American Sentinel bachelor’s degree programs can receive transfer credits for the CompTIA Linux+ certification.
