About the Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification

The Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, offered by the Project Management Institute, is the industry-recognized certification for project management professionals. The PMI credential certifies a professional’s knowledge and experience in project management and his/her ability to successfully lead and direct projects.

About the PMP Exam and Prerequisites

The PMP certification examination measures competence in leading and directing project teams. Candidates must apply to take the PMP exam. To qualify, you must have 35 hours of project management education and possess one of the following:

  • A bachelor’s degree (or the global equivalent) and a minimum of three years of professional project management experience, during which 4,500 hours were spent leading and directing project tasks (within eight years of the time of application).
  • A secondary diploma (or the global equivalent) and a minimum of five years of professional project management experience, during which at least 7,500 hours were spent leading and directing project tasks (within eight years of the time of application).

The four-hour PMP certification examination consists of 200 multiple-choice questions that test the candidate’s knowledge of how project management skills are used in practice.

The PMP certification is universally accepted and recognized, and is a great way for project managers to solidify their skills and stand out to employers. Students can receive transfer credits for their PMP certification when enrolling in American Sentinel degree programs.

Registration

To apply for the PMP exam, simply complete an American Sentinel application. Students who choose to pursue American Sentinel bachelor’s degree programs can receive transfer credits for the PMP certification.
