Is the U.S. Really Losing its Technological Edge? Brian Carlisle - Profile
Graduates and Employers Evaluate Their Worth Congratulations Graduates!

Is the U.S. Really Losing its Technological Edge?
In July, 2005, a story appeared in Fortune magazine stating that the U.S. was losing its competitive edge in technology. This was partly due to the number of engineering graduates coming out of American universities--70,000 per year--compared to a reported 600,000 from China and 350,000 from India.

The problem is, the numbers were bogus. A Wall Street Journal reporter started poking around for answers and suspected that something was fishy. Then a Duke University team of researchers spent months getting to the bottom of the issue by digging for hard numbers in India and China. Despite plenty of stonewalling and responses of "no comment," they got some figures that are closer to reality. To read the full story click here.

DETC Accredited Degree Programs: Graduates and Employers Evaluate Their Worth
In March 2006 the Distance Education and Training Council surveyed 1,900 graduates of 31 DETC-accredited degree-granting institutions. The purposes of these surveys were to obtain information on how DETC degree graduates felt about their distance study experience, how this degree had affected their careers or personal life, and how employers felt about individuals who had earned a degree through distance study. The survey results provide positive testimony to the rigor, depth and worth of accredited degrees earned via distance education. To read the full report click here.
