What is web design and development?
For a web site to make the journey from idea to reality, it must be both designed and developed. Web design is the creative decision-making behind choosing the layout, colors, fonts, interfaces, and other elements that determine a site's look and feel. Web development is the technical process of implementing the design.

Is a bachelor's degree in web design and development right for you?
Successful web designers and developers have technical skills and people skills. They can see the site from a user's point of view and they can effectively communicate technical problems with clients. They take pride in a site that meets everyone's needs.
The American Sentinel University Bachelor of Science, Web Design and Development program (BSWDD) covers all aspects of both phases of website creation. Graduates of the program will know how to design sites that users find intuitive and informative, and how to implement designs using the latest technology.
Students in this program learn through experience, building sites with XHTML, cascading style sheets, Javascript and DOM scripting. Graduates will also be well-versed in information systems as a whole and able to learn new technologies as they emerge, both in and out of web design.
Some of our students already work as web designers and developers and are looking to increase their skill set by earning a degree while others are new to the field. All share the desire to improve their careers by developing a skill set that makes them highly employable.
Objectives of the Bachelor of Science, Web Design and Development Degree Program
In addition to attainment of general education learning objectives, graduates from the Bachelor of Science, Web Design and Development program will be prepared to sit for examination to attain CIW Site Designer certification. Students will also be able to:
- Apply current technology and basic concepts to new Web technologies and design techniques.
- Plan, develop and implement effective and dynamic Web sites that present arguable logic to their structure, style and behavior.
- Develop sustainable growth strategies in global, competitive environments through the application of art, design, illustration and computer information systems skills to create visually attractive and user friendly Web sites.
- Analyze the critical Web design and business issues related to web development projects.
- Obtain leading professional certifications.
