RN to MSN Online Programs
As part of its CCNE-accredited nursing education programs, American Sentinel University offers the Direct Registered Nurse (RN) to Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) option for registered nurses with an associate degree in nursing and at least two years of experience.
Students complete 18 credits of baccalaureate level nursing courses and 3 credits of Professional Communication. Students must achieve a 3.0 in each of these courses. The students will then fill out a graduate application and apply to our MSN program. Students who are not able to achieve a 3.0 in each of the nursing courses, but do have a 2.5 cumulative GPA will be allowed to complete the Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) sequence and then apply separately to the Masters Degree in Nursing program.
The nurse will be able to complete his/her Masters Degree with 21 undergraduate credits and 36 graduate credits, thus accelerating the attainment of an advanced practice degree in either Nursing Management and Organizational Leadership, Case Management, Nursing Education, Nursing Informatics, or Infection Prevention and Control.
Faculty will work with students to identify software support for APA formatting.
Program Objectives
In addition to attainment of general education learning objectives, graduates from the RN to Master of Science Nursing program will be able to:- Assume a leadership role within multidisciplinary teams within healthcare organizations and in the community.
- Directly provide and manage competent care for individuals, families, and groups who have simple to complex health care needs.
- Enhance professional nursing practice through the use of research and evidence based practice.
- Integrate methods of research and scholarship in making and prioritizing diagnoses, and in planning, implementing, and evaluating care of individuals, groups, and communities.
- Assess health and incorporate principles and methods of health promotion and health education in nursing care of individuals, families, and groups who have simple to complex health care needs.
- Accept accountability and responsibility for one's own professional. judgment and actions
- Integrate professional values and role behaviors.
- Express a fundamental understanding of the problems of contemporary health and illness.
- Embrace the role of citizen in a global society.
- Collaborate with other groups in shaping health policies that affect both individual and community health.
