Recorded 2017 events

When and where is the commencement ceremony?

The ceremony will be held on Friday, June 16, 2017 at 9:30am. The ceremony will be held in the Boettcher Concert Hall, part of the Denver Performing Arts Complex. During the ceremony, graduate level students will receive their academic hood, and nursing graduates will receive a nursing pin.

We will be hosting webinars about what to expect at commencement later this year. Look for invitations!

Can my family and friends attend?

Yes! This is a momentous occasion, and your guests are invited to attend both commencement and the open house on June 15th. There are no additional charges for guests, and they do not need tickets.

Who is eligible to participate in commencement this year?

All American Sentinel University graduates from May 1, 2016 to April 30, 2017 are welcome and encouraged to attend the ceremony. Additionally, if you are within nine credit hours (three courses) of completing your degree by April 30, you are welcome to walk in this year’s ceremony. DNP students must complete and pass the final capstone defense by April 30th to participate in the ceremony.

How do I RSVP for commencement? When is the RSVP deadline?

All students who decide to walk at the commencement ceremony will need to submit their RSVP online on or before May 8, 2017. Additionally, there is a $125 commencement fee associated with attendance due at the time you submit the RSVP form.

Am I responsible for bringing my own cap and gown? When should I order this?

Yes. Students must order their regalia (cap, gown, and honor cords or hoods if applicable) from Josten’s and bring these items to the ceremony. Please click here for regalia ordering information. Note: you need to place your order by May 11th in order to have your single-use regalia arrive in time for commencement. If you are a graduate level student and are interested in ordering fine quality regalia, you must order by April 12th.

Will photography be provided?

We will have a professional photographer at commencement. After the event, you will be able to find your pictures online and can purchase them for a fee. However, we also invite you to bring your own camera and take as many pictures as you’d like at all of the events

What time should I arrive to commencement?

Although the ceremony starts at 9:30 a.m., we respectfully ask students to arrive at 8:30. This will give everyone the appropriate amount of time to line up correctly, put on caps and gowns, etc. Guests are welcome to explore the complex and find seats while graduates are getting ready.

Where should I park?

The Denver Performing Arts Complex is located at 1000 14th Street in downtown Denver. There is a parking garage onsite located on Arapahoe and 13th Street. Fees for parking will range from $8-$12 per vehicle.

What do I need to know about American Sentinel’s open house on June 15th, 2017?

We are hosting an open house on Thursday, June 15th, at our office located at 2260 S. Xanadu Way, Suite 310, Aurora, Colorado, 80014. The open house, hosted from 4-6pm, is an opportunity to meet fellow graduates, staff members, and faculty; hors d’ oeuvres and drinks will be served. Our Aurora office is located about 20 minutes from downtown Denver.

Where should I stay?

We have a room block set up at the DoubleTree Aurora for $126 per night. This hotel is located right across the street from our office building (which is perfect if you plan to attend Open House), but it is about 20-25 minutes from downtown. If you decide to book a room here, please call 303.614.0788, and mention that you are a part of the American Sentinel Graduation Block. The rooms are available on a first come, first serve basis.

We are currently working to create other room blocks, but we do not have any set up at this time. Here is a recommended list of hotels close the arts complex where the commencement ceremony takes place.  Simply select the “hotels” tab from the screen that opens. This area is a popular area in Denver for food, entertainment, and shopping.

There are tons of hotel options downtown, and you may be able to find good deals at Hotels.com or other websites. Additionally, the Denver Tech Center and Cherry Creek are popular areas to stay, and both are within 20 minutes of the commencement site.

Should I rent a car?

It may be possible to take a shuttle or taxi from the Denver International Airport to your hotel. However, if you are planning to explore the city or to attend multiple events throughout the weekend, it may be in your best interest to rent a car. You can search for car rental options from the airport, or you may be able to find other options online.

What else can I do in Denver during June?

So much! At the bottom of this webpage, our student success team brainstormed their favorite places to eat and things to do in Colorado. June is a great time to catch a Rockies game, tour downtown, plan a mountain trip, visit the zoo or museums, and enjoy local food and drinks. If possible, we recommend staying for a few days to enjoy all the city has to offer.
