Each branch of the service manages their respective tuition assistance programs and has their own policies governing eligibility, and application process, all Active Service Members (including National Guard and Reserve) must contact their Education Service Officer (ESO) or Education Counselor within your branch of service prior to enrolling with Post University.

As part of our Military Program, you will be assigned a specially trained Military Finance Specialist who will assist you in obtaining your Military Education Benefits. Your Military Finance Specialist also will work with you in completing other forms of financial aid packages and can discuss other scholarships and grants you may be eligible for.

Online Tuition and Fees

Military Programs Tuition for Service Members, Veterans, and Eligible Family Members

Through Post University’s Accelerated Degree Program members of the military (Active Duty, National Guard, or Reserves), veterans, and eligible family members can earn certificates or degrees entirely online.  Post University offers lower tuition, has eliminated most fees, and covers the cost of books and required course materials so military students can earn their degrees at a substantially reduced cost. The tuition and fees reflected below are for military service members, veterans, and eligible family members.

California Student Tuition Recovery Fund Fee

In order for military service members, veterans, and eligible family members to receive the Military Program tuition, fees, and book cost reductions as reflected above, eligibility must be established. To qualify for the Military Program tuition and fee schedule, the following conditions must be met:

  1. If the student is a military service member or a veteran, a certified copy of the service member’s DD-214 must be provided, or if the service member is still serving in the Armed Services or Coast Guard, a copy of the student’s Joint Service Transcript will be obtained by Post University Military Admissions.
  2. If the student is a family member of a service member or veteran, a certified copy of the service member’s DD-214 must be provided to Post University Military Admissions.
    • If the student is a spouse, he/she must provide a copy of a marriage certificate/license.
    • If the student is a dependent, he/she must provide a copy of a Federal Tax Return verifying the dependency and relationship to the veteran or serviceman or woman.

Spouses receiving any Veteran Affairs educational benefits that are separated or divorced from the veteran are not eligible for the Military Program cost reduction.

The Department of Defense has various Tuition Assistance programs. For active duty military members, military Tuition Assistance may cover up to 100% of tuition costs for all courses offered by nationally or regionally accredited institutions. It is important to understand that each branch of the service manages Tuition Assistance differently, and each branch has specific eligibility requirements. The military service members must refer to their specific branches of service for current information regarding military Tuition Assistance policies and procedures.

Post University has a dedicated team of specialists who work exclusively with military students. They are not able to advise students on which benefits to use, that decision must be discussed between the veteran students, the eligible family member students, and the Veterans Administration. Post University is a proud participant in the Yellow Ribbon Program. Additional information is available in the University Catalog Section 5.14 Military Reduction (Main Campus) of the catalog.

Effective August 1, 2019, in accordance with Title 38 US Code 3679 subsection (e), Post University adopts the following additional provisions for any students using U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Post 9/11 G.I. Bill® (Ch. 33) or Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment (Ch. 31) benefits, while payment to the institution is pending from the VA.  Post University will not:

  • Prevent the student’s enrollment;
  • Assess a late penalty fee to;
  • Require student secure alternative or additional funding;
  • Deny their access to any resources (access to classes, libraries, or other institutional facilities) available to other students who have satisfied their tuition and fee bills to the institution.

However, to qualify for this provision, such students may be required to:

  • Provide Chapter 33 Certificate of Eligibility (or its equivalent) or for Chapter 31, VA VR&E’s contract with the school on VA Form 28-1905 by the first day of class. (Note: Chapter 33 students can register at the VA Regional Office to use E-Benefits to get the equivalent of a Chapter 33 Certificate of Eligibility. Chapter 31 student cannot get a completed VA Form 28-1905 (or any equivalent) before the VA VR&E case-manager issues it to the school.)
  • Provide written request to be certified;
  • Provide additional information needed to properly certify the enrollment as described in other institutional policies.

In a case in which an individual is unable to meet a financial obligation to an educational institution due to the delayed disbursement of a payment to be provided by the Secretary under chapter 31 or 33 of such title and the amount of such disbursement is less than anticipated, nothing in section 3679(e) of such title, as added by subsection (a), shall be construed to prohibit an educational institution from requiring additional payment or imposing a fee for the amount that is the difference between the amount of the financial obligation and the amount of the disbursement.

Tuition Refunds

Military Student Refunds

Military Program students must send emails to [email protected] and drop or withdraw from coursework through their respective military tuition assistance providers (GoArmyEd, etc.). Military Students within the American Sentinel College of Nursing & Health Sciences should reach out to their Academic Advisor. No other forms of communication are acceptable for drops or withdrawals. The processing of tuition refunds will occur according to the following schedule:

1.    100% of tuition credit for online courses if notice of the drop occurs within the Add/Drop period.

2.    50% of tuition charge for online courses if notice of the drop occurs one week after the Add/Drop period or by the third Friday of the term.

3.    There will be no charges to students who fail to participate or those the University administratively withdraws from courses.

Post University reserves the right to make changes to tuition or tuition policies at any time.

Unearned TA Policy: Military Tuition Assistance (TA) awards to a service member under the assumption that the service member will attend school for the entire award period.

If a service member withdraws on or before the 60 percent portion of the term, the service member will no longer be eligible for the full amount of Military TA funds originally awarded. To comply with the policy of the Department of Defense, Post University will return any unearned Military TA funds on a pro-rata basis through at least the 60 percent portion of the term of approval.

Post University will return any unearned Military TA funds directly to the military service, not to the service member. The calculation of the return may result in the service member owing a balance to the University. If the service member withdraws due to military service obligation, the University will work with the service member to identify a solution that will not result in a student debt for the returned Military TA portion.

A student’s official withdrawal date or the last date of attendance is the basis of calculating earned percentage of Military TA. The determination of a student’s official withdrawal is the last date of documented attendance submitted to the Registrar’s Office. Upon the determination of the last date of attendance, Post University will recalculate a student’s Military TA eligibility based on the following formula:

Numbers of days completed/total days of the course = Percent of Military TA earned

Unearned TA Policy

Active duty service members, veterans, and eligible family members have access to several benefits in appreciation of their service – including academic benefits designed to help them achieve success in civilian life. Here is a quick overview of the programs available to help you reach your academic and career goals. As each Service Branch determines the eligibility of benefits for their members, it is important to connect with your military service branch or veteran’s administration to determine your eligibility and the process for applying for benefits.

Post University is a proud participant in the Yellow Ribbon Program for military personnel attending as traditional, on campus students.

VA Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment (VR&E)

You may receive VA Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment (VR&E) services to help with job training, employment accommodations, resume development, and job seeking skills coaching. Veterans who have at least a 20% disability rating are eligible to apply; however, approval is not guaranteed.

Tuition Assistance Top-Up Benefit

Active duty members may elect to use the Top-Up Benefit in addition to their service provided tuition assistance (TA) to cover high-cost courses. The Top-up program allows funds from the Montgomery GI Bill® – Active Duty or the Post-9/11 GI Bill® to be used for tuition and fees for high-cost courses that are not fully covered by TA funds. You need to consider carefully your own situations and contact your School Certifying Official (SCO) to discuss applying for Top-up.

Eligibility. To use Top-up, your service branch must approve you for TA. You also must be eligible for the Post-9/11 GI Bill® or the Montgomery GI Bill® – Active Duty.

Application. First apply for TA in accordance with procedures of your service branch. After you have applied for TA, you will need to apply for Department of Veterans Affairs education benefits via ebenefits.va.gov.

The Military Spouse Career Advancement Accounts Program (MyCAA)

The Military Spouse Career Advancement Accounts Program (MyCAA) is a career development and employment assistance program sponsored by the Department of Defense’s (DoD) Spouse Education and Career Opportunities (SECO) program. MyCAA helps military spouses pursue licenses, certificates, certifications or associate degrees* necessary for gainful employment in high demand, high growth, Portable Career Fields and Occupations.

*Associate degrees in General Studies, Liberal Arts, and Interdisciplinary Studies that do not have a concentration are excluded.

Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

Post University encourages all military students who apply for Title IV federal student financial aid to submit their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at least one week prior to the start of their term. Post does not impose a priority deadline and will process all applications as received. The FAFSA application process takes approximately 3-5 days for the University to determine student eligibility.  Post University will process and review FAFSA applications at any time during the term, upon receipt.

Step 1: Create a Federal Student Aid ID

Students, and parents, if applicable, must create an FSA ID to complete and electronically sign the FAFSA. The FSA ID confirms identity when financial aid information is accessed electronically. If students or parents don’t already have an FSA ID, one can be created by visiting https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/fafsa/filling-out/fsaid . The authentication allows access not only to the FAFSA on the web, but also to other student aid websites.


Step 2: Complete and submit the FAFSA by visiting https://fafsa.gov.

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the only application required to apply for federal student aid. This application allows Financial Aid to determine a student’s eligibility for federal, state and institutional aid. The FAFSA must be completed every year.

Post’s school code is 001401 and must be included on the FAFSA for Post University to receive a student’s information.

Please note, when completing the FAFSA, students and parents are encouraged to use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool (DRT) if the tax return has already been filed. This option is available during the completion of the FAFSA and is the most accurate way to submit income information. If a tax return has not been filed, the DRT process cannot be used. Students and parents will need untaxed income information to complete the FAFSA. Examples include prior year W-2 forms, 1099-SSA, etc.


Step 3: Receive and Review Student Aid Report (SAR)

Once the FAFSA is electronically submitted, students can expect to receive a Student Aid Report (SAR) within three to five days. Carefully review the Student Aid Report (SAR) and follow any instructions on the SAR for making corrections or updates.

If assistance with the SAR is needed, contact the Federal Student Aid Information Center at 800.4.FED.AID.


Step 4: Financial Aid Award Information

Post University’s Office of Student Finance will determine financial aid award information for eligible students who successfully complete and submit a FAFSA. Students can view their award information on their student portal. If they wish to reduce or decline any portion of their award, they must reach out to their Financial Aid Advisor.

To log into the Student Portal to review your Award or access your Student Account, select the Student Login link at the top of Post.edu and enter in your username and password.
As loans are an obligation that must be repaid, students are encouraged to borrow responsibly.


Step 5: Verification (if selected)

The U.S. Department of Education will randomly select students for a process known as Verification. Students selected will be notified by a message on their SAR. Verification must be completed before the disbursement of any federal funds. Please note this process is very time sensitive. The financial aid process is not considered complete until all required documents are received.


Step 6A: If accepting a Federal Loan, you must complete a Master Promissory Note (MPN)

Students who decide to accept a Federal Loan must complete a Master Promissory Note (MPN) if they have not already done so. The Master Promissory Note (MPN) contains information on a student’s rights and responsibilities of borrowing from the federal student loan programs. The MPN is electronically signed using the FSA ID and is available at https://studentloans.gov.


Step 6B: If accepting a Federal Loan, complete the Entrance Loan Counseling (first-time borrower only)

Students who decide to accept a Federal Loan and are considered first-time borrowers must complete Entrance Loan Counseling electronically using the FSA ID, available at https://studentloans.gov.
Loan Counseling is required to help students understand their rights, responsibilities and obligations of borrowing from the federal loan programs. During loan counseling, students will receive information on loan interest rates, repayment periods and minimizing the risk of defaulting on a federal student loan.


Step 7: Disbursement of Federal Funds

Federal funds are disbursed to students’ accounts when all required documents have been received and approved. Funds are typically disbursed the second week of a semester or term after the Add/Drop period has ended and active participation in courses has been verified.

Eligible students can expect to receive a disbursement of their financial aid funds every term in which they are eligible and enrolled. For additional questions on the disbursement of financial aid funds, students must contact their Financial Aid Advisors. Aid is disbursed each term in which there is attendance. Aid will not be disbursed during periods of non-attendance.


Step 8: Renew the FAFSA every year attending.
