Each Friday we will be introducing you to one player on the American Sentinel University team. Everyone works hard to make sure our students reach their goals through supporting students and constantly improving our curriculum. When our students graduate with a relevant, innovative healthcare degree we all win!

Meet Professor of Nursing, Barbara Pate, Ph.D., MSN, MPH, RN

What is your favorite part of being a nurse educator?

The absolute best aspect of being a nurse educator is having the opportunity to give back to my profession by nurturing and guiding the next generation of nurses.

What is your favorite song, or musical artist?

While all musical genres have wonderful songs that inspire and move their listeners, for me there is nothing as spiritually uplifting as listening Placido Domingo and the Vienna Boys Choir sing “Ave Maria.”

What is your favorite inspirational quote?

I have two. “Never mistake knowledge for wisdom. One helps you make a living; the other helps you make life.” – Eleanor Roosevelt and “We never learn anything new in life from doing things right.” – Dr. Fay Boozman.

What’s your favorite part about your position with American Sentinel?

At American Sentinel, even though faculty are geographically separated by hundreds of miles, they are connected by the desire to help one another deliver a quality education experience for the students. Faculty members are always willing to reach out to each other and offer support during challenging times. In addition, the nursing leadership creates a spirit of community by engaging faculty in the governance of curricular decisions and policy-making. These organizational traits nurture an environment where all members of faculty, administration, and leadership are working together to help students be successful in achieving their academic and professional aspirations.

What is something that your co-workers might be surprised to find out about you?

At age 15, I was a professional runway model.

What is your favorite part of Spring?

The birds, the bees, and the blooms! They are all working in concert to give us the most beautiful time of year.

Have you dreamed of earning your BSNMSN or DNP? With American Sentinel, you can make that dream a reality.
